Availability and Storage
Availability: California strawberries, fresh or frozen, are a healthy and versatile fruit to enjoy every day.
California strawberries are available year-round, with March-August marking peak season for freshness.
Can be used in sweet and savory dishes, or by themselves, strawberries can be enjoyed in any meal of the day. Just add eight strawberries to everyday recipes to boost nutrition and make a difference in overall health.
Storage: Fresh strawberries are best eaten within 2-3 days of purchase. Store them in the cold storage bin of the refrigerator to reduce airflow, increase humidity, and help preserve freshness.
Strawberry Crumble
(gluten-free and refined sugar-free)
Ingredients
For the Strawberries
6 cups (about 1-1/2 pounds) California strawberries, hulled and quartered
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)
2 tablespoons of maple syrup
For the Crumble
1/2- cup almond flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup of ground flax
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup of maple syrup
1/4 cup of unsalted butter or coconut oil (use coconut oil for a dairy-free version)
Instructions
1. 1. Preheat oven to 375F
2.Lightly grease an 8-inch pan
3. In a bowl mix together strawberries, lemon juice, arrowroot powder, and maple syrup. Add them and layer evenly in the pan.
4. In a small mixing bowl, combine almond flour, oats, cinnamon, salt, and ground flax. Once mixed add maple syrup and coconut oil or butter.
6. Stir and mix, until the mixture is crumbly. Press mixture in between your fingers into small clumps and sprinkle over strawberries.
8. Bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
9. Remove from the oven and let stand for a few minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream
